|Pipping started at about 5pm, 10th June. Pipping is when the chick starts to break through the inner membrane and then the egg shell. A small hole becomes visible.
Where are they?
Situated off the Northumberland coast, RSPB Coquet Island is a vibrant seabird sanctuary. It is the only roseate tern breeding colony and also an important site for nesting puffins and common, Sandwich and Arctic terns.
What is there?
It is home to 40,000 breeding seabirds and is the only UK breeding site for roseate terns (rosy). Protected under international and UK law, it's also important for breeding puffins, as well as common and Arctic terns. Owing to its importance for roseate terns, Coquet Island is a wildlife sanctuary and the public are not allowed to visit.
